How will you address the disparities faced by children and youth in Minnesota?
Because there are hundreds of thousands of disparities in the children of Minnesota, at this time I am unable to answer. Please be more specific.
What is your vision for a quality education system from early childhood through K-12 and higher education that prepares all of Minnesota’s children for success in life?
I like the education system of the 1950s where an A grade was actually worth something. Now you can be a C student in High School and make the Dean’s list with all As in college. I would like to see a reversal of the ‘Dumbing Down of America’ by holding an annual end of school bonfires where those teachers who did not perform up to standards would have ‘their feet held to the fire’ or they could resign and start somewhere else. I see statewide testing where ALL student’s scores are counted, not just the smart ones. I see Minnesota at the forefront in throwing out ‘politically correct’ teaching. I see college professors pleasantly surprised when Minnesota freshmen actually participate in discussions and question the professor instead of acting like spoon-fed lumps of mush. I see “No Child Left Behind” working correctly where the faster students are helping the slower students to achieve the contract norm with the help of their parents, teaching aides and the teacher. The phrase “No Child Left Behind” does not mean automatic promotion.
Oh, and by the way, quality is just another word for average. A C student is a quality student.
